“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers,
they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be
burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee (Isaiah 43:2).”
It was April 9, 1982 in Sunday morning worship, that the hand of God was upon his life and he was introduced to the world. Andrew Doel Gibson was practically born in the church when his mother went into labor that Sunday morning. He was born to Mary Roscoe and Woody Gibson, the proud parents of Andrew. As he grew in stature and in wisdom, he was called into ministry at the age of thirteen years old. He approached his spiritual father and pastor, Johnny Dodd (Divine Tree of Life MB Church) about the matter one Sunday afternoon. Pastor Dodd responded, “Ask the Lord to take it away. There a lot of things that you can’t do. If the calling gets stronger, then you will know that God has called you.” Andrew prayed and sought the Providence of God Monday through Sunday. The burden and calling grew stronger and stronger by the unction of the Holy Ghost. He preached his trial sermon from Isaiah 61: The Spirit of the Lord G OD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound … On December 10, 1995, Minister Gibson received licensed to preach the Word of God.
While majoring in Pre-Law and minoring in African-American Studies at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, Minister Gibson expanded his calling to college ministry. He served as choir director for Echoes of Grace and conducted Bible and Gospel Choir Workshops other schools such as: Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Edwardsville, Illinois State University DePaul University, DePauw University, and Bradley university, to name a few. He also served as a leader in the Christian Faith Campus Ministry at WIU while maintain a GPA of 3.0.
With a calling from God to do more, he started, Witness for Christ Ministries , a multi-ethnic and multi-denominational small Bible study group.
Being a young evangelist, Minister Gibson would go through strange methods of reaching souls for Christ. After college dances he would distribute tracks to his fellow students including his Fraternity brothers of Alpha, Phi Alpha, Incorporated. After personally DJ’ing parties and After-sets, the minister would play gospel music, that resulted in students crying, worshipping and repenting. Witness for Christ grew from 5 to 100 members in regular attendance. Among his college memories, His group which amassed to 200 students, marched around WIU’s campus anointing college dorms for the protection, safety, and salvation of the campus.
With the favor of God and man, this was only the beginning of what would result in Nationwide ministry. Minister Gibson began preaching and teaching at various venues: Megafest in Detroit , a city-wide Ecumenical worship of all churches and leaders, preaching to a crowd of 5000 at Youth Fest at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and conducting revivals in the south and midwestern parts of the United States.
After years of training and teaching local church National Baptist Convention and State Conference, Pastor Dodd was convinced that it was time for an elevation in ministry for Minister Gibson. Following a public dispersal of knowledge to worshipers and ministers of God, Dr. Gibson received his License of Ordination on May 16, 2010. Soon after his ordination, churches began to seek reverend Gibson to lead them. Although he felt that it was not his time, God and Pastor Doss knew better. In May of 2013, after asking him to apply interview, submit references, and preach, out of 155 applicants, the Vernon Baptist Church (6400 S. Champlain Avenue.) membership chose him to be their pastor. At the time that he received the call, he was preaching the message, “Rehoboth: God is Making Room” when he received the call. Currently he pastors in two locations. The second location is at 6801 South Bell in Chicago, Illinois.
Indeed, God has made “room” with the promises of Isaiah 43. With God’s anointing Pastor Andrew served as Sunday School teacher and president of the pastoral ministers and currently serves as the Dean of Education for the Ministers and Laymen’s Conference , the president of the Ministers and Leadership Conference , Pastor Gibson Received an earned D. Min. (Doctor of Ministry) in 2016 from Midwest Theological Institute. He is most contemporarily noted for the 24 HOUR PRAYER WALK, which provided for 100 jobs, 50 mentorship opportunities, and a giveaway of 2000 food items to the less fortunate. His most precious and recent accomplishment occurred in October 2017, when Pastor Gibson married his best friend and soul mate Lady Chawanna Gibson. Together they have of three amazing children - Kemel, Adina Kyrie.
Pastor Gibson energetic, powerful and peculiar preaching style has caused him to be one of the most sought out young Pastors in the city of Chicago.
